Electrical installations

From design to installation

Installations in New Buildings

A new build offers a significant advantage: the electrical requirements can be planned before the walls and finishes are completed. This allows for the timely planning of power sockets, wiring, the distribution board, lighting and any additional connections the space will require.

The aim is not simply to install enough sockets and switches. It is to create an installation that caters to the way the building will actually be used.

What needs to be organised before implementation

  • The layout and use of the spaces
  • Power sockets and switches
  • Lighting requirements
  • The required wiring and the electrical distribution board
  • The locations of appliances and equipment
  • Provisions for future requirements

When is the best time to speak to an electrician about a new build?

The sooner the layout and basic requirements of the space are known, the better they can be incorporated into the design before work begins.

Do I need to have decided on all the appliances and light fittings?

It is not essential to have selected all the specific models, but it is useful to know the basic locations and the requirements that the installation will need to meet.

Can future requirements be taken into account?

Yes, when it is known early on what might be added later, appropriate provisions can be made at the design stage.
